Kosher breakfast and kosher breakfast items

A nicely cooked kosher breakfast is the best way to start your day because this is the fuel that carries you around, literally, for the entire day. No wonder they say that your breakfast is the most important meal of your day so you should never take it lightly.

With a dedicated assortment of dietary precepts the ancient and wise Jews wanted to make sure that the kosher breakfast you have gives you not only nourishment, but also protection from pollutants that are present in naturally appearing foods.

Some of the most prevalent kosher breakfast items are cottage cheese recipes, eggs, dairy products, differently baked breads, meat products, cereals and fruit meals. Later on we’ll go through some of the specific kosher breakfast items you can easily prepare using these.

What makes it a kosher breakfast?

Just like any other kosher meal, you can make your breakfast kosher by following the food preparation guidelines in keshrut, Jewish dietary laws. Some of prominent guidelines are:

  • Only consume breakfast items made from the meat of kosher animals in case you want to consume non-vegetarian food in the morning.
  • There should be no fat if the meat is derived from a land animal like cattle, sheep or goat.
  • All the blood must be drained out within the 72 hours of slaughtering the animals
  • Avoid eating meat with dairy products and vice-versa

Some prominent kosher breakfast items

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables: Most of these are accepted by the keshrut, as long as they are not cooked or boiled in a general, non-kosher kitchen.
  • Tea and coffee: It’s OK to serve tea and coffee for a kosher breakfast as long as non-kosher condiments are not being uses and there is no meat item if milk is being mixed into the hot beverage you’re having. This automatically means that your breakfast becomes non-kosher if you are having a glass of milk with a meat item.
  • Breads and rolls: While consuming breads and rolls for your breakfast you need to make sure their kosher status is verified because most of these items are not prepared in your kitchen. You should buy breads and rolls only from trusted vendors that sell kosher bakery products.
  • Cereals: Again, since most cereals come in packaging, you have to make sure that the company producing and packaging your breakfast cereals adheres to kosher guidelines.

Although the sky is the limit when it comes to preparing kosher breakfast items, you just need to follow the conventional keshrut rules while preparing a healthy, nutritious breakfast for a good kosher beginning of the day.
